I just cooked up a batch of Absinthe last night.....nah, okay, bad joke.
Anybody have any thought on "Lucid" out of NY?

Tue, September 25, 2007 - 2:59 PMFriends are reporting it's lacking on many fronts. Taste, affect, louche...

Re: Lucid
Wed, September 26, 2007 - 12:26 PMI like it, though it is quite a bit weaker in flavor (and louche, yes) compared to many others. However, I think it's a very good absinthe all the same-- certainly worth trying.

Re: Lucid
Wed, April 23, 2008 - 9:44 AMLucid is now available in Pennsylvania at the state liquor stores. You can order it online from them for $64.99 (I think you then pick it up at a local store). They have such a small quantity that it doesn't make sense, I guess, to stock any stores with it. -

Re: Lucid
Mon, July 14, 2008 - 10:16 PMI bought some and was really not impressed. It was expensive, but I am going to pawn it off on some friends who have never had it before. I have dubbed it: "absinthe with training wheels."
What can I say? I'm hooked on the Jade. -

Re: Lucid
Mon, July 14, 2008 - 10:41 PMI have tasted Jade stuff and Lucid and there is hardly any difference ... -

Re: Lucid
Tue, July 15, 2008 - 10:19 PMDude, then your palatte is wacked. You can't taste any of the wormwood at all in the Lucid. There is no cardamom, there are no overtones of mint, the color is off, the overall intensity of flavor is weaker. Plus, the louche sucks ass.
I just don't know what to say to you if you think they are the same in taste. Maybe you are lucky in that your wallet will be saved teh extra bucks in having to import. Every single person I have done a tasting with is completely unimpressed with the Lucid after the Jade. My housemate says Lucid is the bottom of the bottom in our comparison of Kubler, St. George, And two kinds of Jade. -

Re: Lucid
Tue, July 15, 2008 - 11:16 PMyeah. The Jades are really quite special. Pretty much the only stuff I'll drink anymore (though I'm interested to try the later bottlings of St. George. HATED the first bottling. Too bitter. blech)

Tue, July 15, 2008 - 11:42 PMAgain - you know how it is ... all things subjective ... Hype and the geek appeal of Ted Breaux are apparently very powerful ...

Re: Lucid
Thu, July 17, 2008 - 9:47 AMUmm... actually our friend Ted created Lucid in addition to his lovely Jades. He tweaked the formula so it would be better for the American tastes and would be legal.

So, I am not so dazzled by him that I am not willing to diss his American styled absinthe. It's honestly just not as good.
The St. George, well I disliked it at first when I had it at a bar, but when I went to Hangar One for a tasting it was excellent. Really different. I don't know if the difference was the batch or the manner in which it was served.
